Who’s the Rumer-Loudin Guy?
When we started making television commercials about 10 years ago, all of our technicians were camera shy. One of the producers at WTOV Channel 9 suggested a guy he knew that performed dinner theater, was the Froggy Frog, and played guitar and sang with a member of some bands, one being “Two Friends Trio.” Although we don’t know which one isn’t a friend. We went with his suggestion and thus the first commercial, Mr. Fix-It, was filmed. It was such a hit; we produced more and more and our leading man become a minor local celebrity. He says not a day goes by that he isn’t approached about being the “Rumer-Loudin” guy, such that he had a t-shirt made that says, “Yes, I am the Rumer-Loudin guy.”
Kevin Dennis is not an employee or relative. He is a retired high school guidance counselor who became the star of the Rumer-Loudin commercials over a decade ago. Kevin came to us as a local actor in community theater who has several other commercial credits on his resume. A resident of Steubenville, Kevin, can be found most often with either a guitar or a golf club in hand. He also has a passion for classic muscle cars. Kevin has been tagged as the “Rumer-Loudin Guy” frequently in the entire Tri-State area and as far away as central Florida in a Wal-Mart. He enjoys meeting the people who have recognized him from the commercials and is always willing to take pictures with his “groupies.”
Kevin says, “Even though I’ve done a lot of acting and appeared in several other commercials, being the Rumer-Loudin guy has been the most fun gig I’ve done.”
Some of the things that might surprise you about Kevin are that he has also appeared in two movies, was Mr. Froggy for Froggy radio for 10 years, as well as the Pickle Radio Parrot in Pittsburgh, the Kool Cat for KOOL-FM, the Jack-a-Roo for JACK-FM and even a stint as Snowbird.
Prior to becoming a guidance counselor, Kevin was a computer teacher, and a system networking employee for Wendys, which took him all over the world.
We are asked where we get our ideas for our commercials. Well…. our customers. We have really rescued cats from ductwork, fixed a furnace that was shot and an air conditioner run over by a tractor (and car), repaired wiring and refrigerant lines taken out by a weed eater, and found air conditioners still covered from winter but the homeowner tried to run it anyway. Plus, we have been called by people who got a friend of a friend (Uncle Spunky) to put in a piece of equipment who won’t call them back if they have trouble, thus the “taillight” warranty spot. Dirty filters are the cause of many repairs each year so we try to educate others about those issues and highlight our maintenance agreement services.
